KAKTOS Publishing House was founded in 1974 by Odysseas Chatzopoulos. Between 1974 and 1991, it released approximately 2,800 books. During this period, it included the major series of science fiction, making the works of top authors in the genre known to the Greek public, such as Arthur Clarke, Isaac Asimov, and others.

Since 1991, along with other publications, KAKTOS Publications has primarily focused on publishing the series “Ancient Greek Literature – The Greeks,” which aims to publish translated and commented – for the first time in Greece and internationally – all the works of all authors of ancient Greece. This series was awarded in April 2000 by the University of Aix-en-Provence in France as one of the most important works of our time, and later, in October 2002, by the Pierides Foundation in Cyprus.

Today, KAKTOS Publications continues with the same passion to enrich the series of Ancient Greek Literature, which now numbers 820 volumes and is the largest in the world for its subject matter! The collection includes philosophy, history, theater, rhetoric, medicine, mathematics, astronomy, literature, lexicographical studies, anthologies, and every other significant ancient Greek work, from the beginnings of ancient Greek thought to the 6th century AD.

At the same time, we are expanding into different thematic categories with new Greek authors and translations of selected titles from abroad. Our aim is to offer books that will forever adorn the reader’s library.
